The CommBox Neo webinar introduced the latest addition to the CommBox interactive display range, focusing on simplicity, security and clear product positioning across different environments.
Hosted by Sarah Drysdale, COO and Head of Product, alongside Product Manager Ellie Foot, the session explored the two-year development journey behind Neo and the problem it was designed to solve. As interactive displays became more feature-rich, CommBox identified a growing need for a simpler, more secure alternative that still delivered essential collaboration functionality.
The webinar highlighted how Neo was developed through multiple iterations, with early versions not meeting expectations around writing quality, connectivity and overall experience. Through continued refinement and feedback from customers, including secure agencies, the team delivered a product that balances simplicity with performance.
Neo was positioned as a non-OS interactive display designed for environments where security and ease of use are critical. Key capabilities include simple whiteboarding, annotation across inputs and wireless screensharing via Ethernet, while avoiding the complexity of a full operating system.
The session also outlined the different Neo configurations, including Neo Core for education and general use, as well as hardened versions for enterprise, Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms and highly secure environments with strict control over ports and connectivity.
A key message throughout the webinar was clear product positioning. CommBox now offers two complementary solutions within its interactive range. The Classic S5 remains the premium, fully featured interactive display powered by the Goanna firmware, while Neo provides a simpler, secure alternative for specific use cases.
Natalie Tubman, Head of Customer for New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, shared insights into how the Goanna firmware and AI capabilities are already being adopted in schools. She highlighted strong engagement from educators, particularly around features such as AutoFill, which removes the need for teachers to repeatedly enter usernames and passwords on shared screens, and enhancements to the whiteboard including writing to text and expanded content options.
Natalie also spoke to the growing impact of the CommBox AI Toolkit in classrooms. Features such as live subtitles and real-time translation are supporting more inclusive learning environments, while tools like Ask AI allow teachers to respond instantly to student questions without disrupting lesson flow. Early adoption in schools such as St Kentigern College has demonstrated how these tools can improve engagement, reduce downtime and support more dynamic teaching.
The webinar reinforced the importance of matching the right product to the right environment. Neo is ideal for spaces where users primarily work from external devices or where security requirements limit the use of operating systems, while the Classic S5 is suited to environments that benefit from on-panel apps, AI tools and advanced functionality.
The session concluded with an overview of the supporting marketing, sales and enablement resources available to partners, along with a reminder of CommBox’s ongoing focus on delivering secure, reliable and user-focused collaboration technology.
